Bonded fixed retainer

Bonded fixed retainers are small, discreet wires that can be affixed at the back surfaces of the front teeth and will hold them together indefinitely. They are well tolerated by the tongue and completely invisible.

We advise most of our adult patients to invest in bonded retainers, especially in the lower teeth, to prevent any malalignment. We often prescribe them in conjunction with removable, clear, retainers, as the bonded retainers will not hold the back teeth, which may lead to deterioration of the bite and derangement of the occlusion. In certain clinical situations that only the front teeth have been treated it may well be appropriate for only a fixed retainer to be used alone.

If you need more information regarding bonded retainers, please ask your Orthodontist.
